EDTC4001 Course Goals

The primary purpose of this course is for students to be competent in information, media, and technology skills as identified by the 21st Century Skills as well as integration strategies for satisfying the North Carolina Professional Teaching Standards, The National Educational Technology Standards for Students (NETS-S), and The National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers (NETS-T).

Upon completion of this course, a student will be able to:

  • Utilize and design candidate created electronic portfolio with a Universal Portfolio Template
  • Demonstrate proficiency with web based creation tools and file management techniques to effectively create and utilize Universal Portfolio Template and Professional Web Site.
  • Incorporate various technologies demonstrating understanding of diverse populations.
  • Use technology to analyze data from formative and summative assessments.
  • Utilize technology as a tool to research, organize, evaluate and communicate, and assess information.
  • Possession of a fundamental understanding of the ethical/legal issues surrounding the access and use of information in educational environments.
  • Explore and evaluate the tools used to integrate technology into the k-12 curriculum.
  • Develop lesson plans for the classroom environment for skills in problem solving and inquiry and use applied technology resources in professional settings.
  • Use of desktop publishing, spreadsheet creation and utilization, database creation and utilization for classroom activities, student assessment and instruction applicable to the student's grade level and subject area.
  • Possess a basic understanding of media literacy and its impact on educational settings.
  • Use Internet technologies and be able to apply them to classroom instruction and professional communication.
  • Use presentation software creatively and be introduced to web page design and development.
  • Using digital technology, communication tools and/or networks appropriately to access, manage, integrate, evaluate, and create information in order to prepare k-12 students in a knowledge economy.
