Office of Research


The Office of Research is a service unit within the College of Education (COE). Its mission is to support and further the scholarship of the college's programs, faculty, and students; and provide grant administration and compliance assurance for project implementation.


Under the direction of the Associate Dean, the Office of Research encourages faculty and students to engage in individual, collaborative, and interdisciplinary inquiry, particularly to ensure continued improvement of COE's programs. The Office provides assistance to faculty and students in a variety of areas, including:

  • developing research ideas and efforts
  • connecting with other scholars
  • accessing needed resources
  • identifying funding sources
  • submitting funding applications
  • administering grant awards
  • monitoring project implementation to ensure compliance
  • linking with ECU's Offices of Sponsored Programs and Research and Grants

 The Office of Research and Grants serves as 1) support for grant procurement and administration; 2) compliance monitoring; and 3) liaison with the Office of Sponsored Programs and the Office of Grants and Contracts. The many responsibilities linked to grant development and administration (i.e. securing approval in RAMSES before grant submission, processing EPAFs to hire grant personnel and effort reporting, processing purchases and travel, and reconciling expenditures) are time sensitive and often involve multiple offices and groups on campus. Consequently, there are College of Education, Division of Academic Affairs, Research and Grants, and UNC-GA policies and procedures that must be followed to assure timeliness of submission and expenditures and compliance with University, General Administration, State and Federal requirements.

COE grant educates students on the science of drug abuse

The Science Education Against Drug Abuse Partnership (SEADAP) program aims to expose students from 6th through 12th grade to the real-world applications of the scientific method in order to teach them about drug addiction. Now in its third year, the SEADAP program continues to implement hands-on curriculum educating students about the science of drug addiction and the adverse effects of widely abused substances while exposing students in research activities to increase their interest in STEM careers. edTPA Data Summit 2016

The College of Education’s Office of Assessment, Accreditation and Data Management hosted the third annual Data Summit on June 8, to share edTPA performance data with faculty and discuss strategic plans for program improvement.  The event was open to all edTPA liaisons (TPALs) and department chairs.  Individual departments throughout the College of Education are now holding their own data summits to review student performance data and develop plans for program improvement.
