Master of English,
Emphasis in Multicultural and Transnational Literatures
(campus & online)

One of two programs in the continental US on the Masters Level, the Multicultural and Transnational Literatures emphasis focuses on postcolonial, Africa Diaspora, and Ethnic American literatures.

The MA in English with an emphasis in multicultural and transnational literatures, available as both campus and online programs, is a two-year or equivalent program designed for professionals who wish to develop their knowledge of American ethnic and world literatures written in English, teach in community colleges, or pursue the PhD.

The degree can be earned completely online. Courses follow the ECU academic calendar with due dates for assignments (courses are not self-paced). You will participate in an active e-learning community, but discussions will be asynchronous (not synchronous in real time) to accommodate busy schedules.

The Multicultural and Transnational Literatures emphasis is designed to prepare students for both community college teaching and further study in Ph.D. programs, as well as law school and other professions that concern ethnic, cultural, and international relations.

By virture of its interdisciplinary nature, the Multicultural and Transnational Literatures concentration is a cutting edge program, reflecting major changes in Departments of English worldwide.

We also offer a Certificate in Multicultural and Transnational Literatures.
