Margaret D. Bauer serves as coordinator of literature for the English Department and co-chair of the Planning Committee for the Eastern North Carolina Literary Homecoming. She is the 2004 Thomas Harriot College of Arts and Sciences recipient of the East Carolina University Scholar-Teacher Award, was named one of the ten ECU Women of Distinction in 2006, and received the Five-Year Achievement Award for Excellence in Research/Creative Activity in 2008. She is also the President of the North Carolina Literary and Historical Association.

Dr. Bauer has recently finished her third monograph, Understanding Tim Gautreaux, which is forthcoming from the University of South Carolina Press in January 2010. She is working on a collection of interviews with North Carolina playwright Paul Green and a book on the Scarlett O’Hara character type in Southern literature.
