Joanne Dunn's educational background includes undergraduate studies in literature and graduate studies in rhetoric and composition, and she is also interested in critical pedagogy. As the mother of two and a former small business entrepreneur and hairdresser, she considers teaching her second profession. She has conducted seminars for Boddie-Noel Enterprises, is enthusiastic about decorating and cooking, and involved in the Catholic Church and ECU's Christian Faculty Network. Quintillion is her secular hero because of his ideas about the ethical responsibility of teaching. In the Department of English, she has served on the Hospitality and First-Year Composition Committees. She carries ECU's motto -- "to serve" -- into her classroom, where she promotes a student-centered community learning environment. Having been a "non-traditional" student herself, she is interested in the learning experiences of returning-adult students and is currently developing publications that discuss strategies for teaching returning-adult learners.
