Marie T. Farr has served as the Founding Director of the Women's Studies Program, Acting Chair of the Department of Communication, Assistant Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, and Associate Chair of English. A recipient of the Robert L. Jones Alumni Award for Teaching Excellence, she especially enjoys teaching in the Women's Studies and Honors Programs.  Professionally, she has been active as president and steering committee member of the Southeastern Women's Studies Association.  Her presentations, articles and reviews focus on women's literature and women's issues.  Most recently she has published a chapter on Charlotte Perkins Gilman and an article on the difficulty of teaching college students about sexuality and sexual orientation.
