Wendy Sharer
is Director of First-Year Writing and has
research interests in composition pedagogy, the histories of rhetoric and
composition, and visual rhetoric. Her work on the rhetorical practices of
20th Century women's political organizations has been published as the
book Vote and Voice: Women's Organizations and Political Literacy,
1915-1930 (Southern Illinois, 2004). In addition, she has co-edited
Rhetorical Education in America (Alabama, 2004), a collection of
essays by noted scholars and teachers of rhetoric in American higher
education. Her scholarship has also appeared in the journals Rhetoric
Society Quarterly and Rhetoric Review and in the anthologies
Rhetorical Bodies (Wisconsin 1999) and Professing Rhetoric
(Erlbaum, 2002). Currently, she is researching the teaching of writing in
the camps of the Civilian Conservation Corps during the 1930s and the life
of Julia Grace Wales, an early 20th Century educator and peace activist.
