Gary Stringer specializes in English Renaissance literature and textual and bibliographical studies. He is the General Editor and a Senior Textual Editor of The Variorum Edition of the Poetry of John Donne (8 vols., Indiana University Press, 1995--), a project he founded in 1980 and recently moved to a new institutional home in the English department at East Carolina University. He is a past chairman of the Modern Language Association’s Committee on Scholarly Editions and past president of the South-Central Modern Language Association and the John Donne Society.
