Tedesco received a Prime Time Family Reading Grant from the Louisiana
Endowment for the Humanities and the National Endowment for the Humanities
administered by Shepard Memorial Library. Scholar Tedesco
will join Ann Sullivan on the scholar-storyteller team, leading parents
and their children in humanities-based discussions of picture books as
a way of breaking intergenerational cycles of low literacy. Intended
primarily for families that have not been traditional library users, the
program will take place in the early fall of 2002.

Parade by Davis Grubb and edited by Tom Douglass for the University
of Tennessee Press has been nominated for the Weatherford Award as the
best fiction title in Appalachian Studies.
