Awards & Appointments

Mug ShotMary Carroll-Hackett received the 2002 Willamette Award for Fiction sponsored by The Clackamas Literary Review.  The prize includes a 500$ cash award and publication.  Her prize story, "Lifeline," will appear in the fall issue of The Clackamas ReviewCLR promotes the work of emerging writers and established writers of fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction and sponsers two annual contests, the Willamette Award in Fiction and Poetry, and the Peter and Jean de Maine Award for Emerging Writers in Fiction.

Jim Dodson, a 1975 English graduate, was honored Homecoming Weekend Oct. 19th as one of ECU's Outstanding Alumni.  He has been a writer for The Greensboro Daily News and The Atlanta Journal & Constitution Sunday Magazine, and he currently writes a monthly column for Golf Magazine.  His books include Final Rounds: A Father, a Son, the Golf Journey of a Lifetime (1996) and Faithful Travelers: a Father, a Daughter, a Fly Fishing Journey of the Heart (1998) which was recently made into a CBS Movie of the Week.

Poet Brendan Galvin, who holds the Whichard Distinguished Chair in the Humanities for fall, 2002, will give a reading on Wednesday, Nov. 13, in Bate Bldg. 1032 @ 7:30 p.m.  Click for TCR interview with Galvin.
