Description
of Studio
The First-Year
Writing Studio, located in Room 2005 Bate Building, offers free one-on-one
help sessions for your English 1100 and 1200 students. Our writing consultants,
all English graduate students, can help your students organize thoughts,
brainstorm ideas, document sources, use grammar handbooks, and clarify
a paper's focus. While we are not an editing service, consultants will
help students learn to spot and correct grammatical and mechanical problems.
We ask that
you encourage students to schedule appointments ahead of time to guarantee
assistance; however, they may drop in during Studio hours and, if there
is an available consultant, she or he will assist them. Students should
bring the assignment, a current draft and any other relevant materials
(i.e., textbook, past drafts, class notes, syllabus, etc.)
While consultants
are not available to cover classes for you, they do offer workshops to
complement your instruction in English 1100 and 1200. Workshop topics
include:

Studio Guidlines for Workshops
Due to the awesome
cost of photocopying our workshops for use in the classroom, consultants
conduct workshop sessions in one of the department's computer
labs where students can access the materials via the web, follow along
on screen, complete the practice exercises using Microsoft Word, and save
a copy on disk or print a copy of the materials if desired. When you request
a workshop either using the on-line form or by calling or e-mailing the
studio, either the administrative assistant or your consultant will e-mail
to confirm the appointment as well as inform you of the room where your
workshop is scheduled. After the workshop, don't forget to fill out our
feedback survey.
Computer
Lab
The Studio
also houses a computer lab in Bate 2007 that can be reserved for class session
and, when not reserved, is available to all ECU students, faculty, and staff.
The computer lab is open during consulting hours and can be reserved by
