Writing Studio Staff

Will Banks

( Interim Director, First Year Writing Studio)

Dr. William P. Banks currently serves as Interim Director of the First-Year Writing Studio, coordinating its efforts to make students better writers with those of the First-Year Writing Program.  Will's an "old hand" at tutoring, having worked for two years as a tutor while in his master's program and then later serving as Assistant Director of the University Writing Center at Georgia Southern University.  Will believes that writing, like other arts, must be learned more on an individual level than on a group level, which is why he enjoys individual conferences with his students in writing classes and why he supports the mission of the First-Year Writing Studio so aggressively.

Stacey

(First-Year Writing Studio Assistant)

Stacey serves as the First-Year Writing Studio assistant.  She works diligently to keep the Studio running smoothly.  She is the contact person for scheduling appointments for students and reserving the computer lab for instructors.  Stacey is a Greenville native and a ECU graduate.  She received her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from ECU in 2005.  She is currently working on her master’s in business administration.  Her goal is to finish her degree and develop her career in business management at a pharmaceutical company.  She enjoys living in NC and embraces the opportunities to travel to the beautiful mountains and beaches.

Trisha

My name is Trisha. I was born in Kansas, raised mostly in central New York. My undergraduate degree is from ECU and I have a master's from West Texas A&M University. Currently I'm working on the completion of a second master's as well as a doctoral degree, both from ECU. Upon completion I hope to teach policy analysis and persuasion in a technical writing program at the university level. When I have time to spare, I enjoy reading and travel. I am a Declaration of Independence buff and enjoy studying the history behind its inception.

Brennan

"Brennan is studying Traditional Literature as a first year graduate student in the Department of English.  After earning his Master’s degree, Brennan plans to continue working towards a PhD, with specialization in fields including speculative fiction, mythology, and film.  After completing his graduate studies, Brennan hopes to begin teaching composition and literature courses at the community college or university level."

Steven

Steven is from Winterville, NC. He has always been an avid reader and occasional writer. When began his freshman year at ECU, he immediately changed his intended major from psychology to english because of the great experience he had in the classrooms, with students and with teachers. After graduating with a B.A. in English, he took the G.R.E and applied for the English Grad program at ECU with a concentration in literature. Once getting accepted, he enrolled in two courses and began an assistantship here in the Writing Studio. He is very excited about working with younger students to help instill confidence into their writing skills. Once he graduates with an M.A. he plans to work as a teacher in primary schools or perhaps community college while he works on his Ph.D. Working as a journalist would also be an exciting career. He enjoys music, movies, Frisbee golf, poetry, and experimental fiction.

Matt

I am a first-year graduate student at ECU, studying for a Master’s degree in English; though I am unsure what I want to concentrate in, I would like either to write or to teach.  I graduated in May 2007 from Mars Hill College, a small, private 4-year liberal arts college in western North Carolina, with high honors.  Originally from another small town north of Raleigh, I have found Greenville to be a big change from my previous ‘hometowns’.

Scott

My name is Scott, I’m from Weaverville, NC (a little North of Asheville) and I went to UNC-Asheville for my undergraduate work.  I’m at ECU for my MA degree in Literature and I plan to go on from there for a PhD and teach eventually.  I enjoy reading and have many favorite authors, my very favorite currently being Robert Coover and I also like to write a little when I have a can.  When I have time I enjoy going to Lake Keowee to relax, fish, ski, and ride jet-skis.  I have a wonderful fiancé who lives in Vanceboro and is going to school to be a pharmacist.  I also like going home when I can and visiting my family.

Cole

I’m Cole from Scranton, NC.  It’s in Hyde County, just off the coast.  Ever gone to Ocracoke Island?  You had to drive around Scranton on the way there.  I received my Bachelor’s Degree in English from ECU this past December with a minor in History and am currently working on my M.A.  In my spare time, I enjoy reading, writing, watching lots of movies and playing a video game here and there.  I love anything and everything dealing with World War II and dream of writing a wartime era novel someday.
