WELCOME TO THE FRENCH SECTION

We offer courses in French language, French civilization, the French-speaking Americas and French-speaking Africa. We also have a French Club where anyone can attend meetings, practice French, and discuss French and Francophone cultural issues. We welcome you to join our club and enroll in our classes! We also welcome you to consider our Degree Programs:

WHY STUDY FRENCH?

  • French is spoken by 338 million people on five continents!
  • French is the third most useful business language! [1]
  • French is an official language of the UN, the EU, the International Red Cross, the WTO, and the International Olympic Committee! [2]
  • French is an official language of Canada, USA's #1 trade partner!
  • French is the 4th most spoken second-language in the USA! [3]

GIVE TO FRENCH!

The French section has initiated a drive to build resources reserved solely for the French section and its students. Local Francophiles and French faculty have already raised 30% of the minimum required by ECU to create such a fund. Please consider helping us by clicking here (please note "French Priority Fund" in the "Gift Instructions"). Or you may make out a check to "ECU Foundation" and send it to 1002-C Bate Building, East Carolina University, Mail Stop 511, Greenville, NC 27858 (please note "French Priority Fund" in the memo line). Any amount is appreciated and tax deductible. Thank you for your help! For specific questions concerning donations to French, please contact Dr. Marylaura Papalas at papalasm@ecu.edu.
