The Newborn Nursery service admits over 2100 infants per year. During rotations in the Newborn Nursery, residents perform all aspects of routine newborn care, including physical assessment, counseling of parents and follow up in pediatric clinics. In addition, the resident gains experience in the management of common newborn problems not requiring intensive care services. The resident is supervised and makes daily rounds with senior staff on this broad-based newborn population with various primary care challenges including prematurity, drug or infectious desease exposure, adolescent and mohters. Residents have opportunity to gain skill in providing breastfeeding counseling and performing circumcisions.
