The Office of Generalist Programs was established to encourage and support the education and development of primary care physicians in eastern North Carolina. The primary focus is to deliver excellent primary care education, service and outreach to the underserved communities and regions. The program was established at a time of declining interest in primary care and has focused on fostering interest in primary care for students, residents and rural practitioners.
The Generalist Physician Program is committed to fostering student interest in medical generalism; developing a community-responsive physician workforce; and increasing the number of medical students entering primary care careers.
