OUR TEACHING HOSPITAL, Pitt County Memorial, is one of four academic medical centers in North Carolina. Our outstanding services have earned national recognition.

With 745 beds, the hospital serves as the tertiary referral center for a 29-county region of more than a million people. Our patients present with a broad variety of both common and rare diseases and conditions. In an average year, we see more than 33,000 inpatients and about 266,000 outpatients in Greenville. Our clinical staff includes more than 500 physicians and 1,200 nurses.

Our hospital is part of a major medical complex that includes a cardiovascular center, the Leo W. Jenkins Cancer Center, the Family Medicine Center, Children's Hospital, Women's Center and Regional Rehabilitation Center.

In addition to comprehensive inpatient services, we have a Pain Management Center and a regional Level I Trauma Center, with air and ground emergency transport system.

Additional services include a surgical suite with 23 operating rooms, SurgiCenter for outpatient surgery, a sleep center, home care and hospice, radiology (including PET scans), pharmacy and laboratory.

In 2005, the hospital gained top honors for patient satisfaction among hospitals nationwide. Other recent distinctions include being named for a second year as a top place to work by Working Mother Magazine, and a 2004 recognition as a Magnet nursing hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. It has been ranked in the top 50 by U.S. News & World Report for heart, heart surgery and urology services and Solucient listed it among the top 100 teaching hospitals in the country.

Pitt County Memorial is also the flagship institution of a large regional network, University Health Systems of Eastern Carolina, with hospitals in Edenton, Ahoskie, Windsor, Tarboro and Nags Head.
