About University Health Systems

UNIVERSITY HEALTH SYSTEMS OF EASTERN CAROLINA is a network of hospitals, physicians' offices and related services, with Pitt County Memorial Hospital as its flagship hospital.

The system provides integrated care to more than 1.2 million people in a broad, geographically diverse area. Its mission is to improve the health status of people in the region, through education, delivery of health care services and research.

Within our health system are nurses, radiologists, pharmacists, lab technicians and others working together to provide high-quality care to a diverse mix of patients. At University Health Systems your skills will be tested, challenged and nurtured. And here, you'll discover how rewarding and satisfying a career in patient care can be. Whether you're just getting started or have experience, this challenging environment offers room to grow.

We provide acute, intermediate, rehabilitation and outpatient services to people from 28 counties. In an average year, we see about 33,000 inpatients and more than 266,000 at our hospital in Greenville. We operate a regional Level I Trauma Center with an air and ground emergency transport.

PCMH is recognized as a Magnet nursing hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. It has been recognized as one of the top 100 places in the nation to work by Working Mother Magazine.

Other recent distinctions include US News & World Report's ranking in the top 50 hospitals in the nation for heart, heart surgery, and urology services, and Solucient's listing among the top 100 teaching hospitals in the country and recognition for cardiovascular services for two consecutive years.

In the next few years we plan to build a new cardiovascular hospital and education center to address the high incidence of heart disease in this region. Bed capacity is expected to reach 800 by 2008. Our centers of excellence and other programs are designed to meet the health needs of the population we serve in eastern North Carolina.
