A Residential Summer Enrichment Institute

The Ventures into Health Careers Institute is designed to introduce highly motivated minority youth from eastern North Carolina to various careers and opportunities in Health Careers. The program includes observation of health professionals at the worksite, seminars (with emphasis on math, sciences, and communication skills). Activities in personal development and self-awareness are included in the program. A typical day in the program runs from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm with some evening activities included.

The program is open to minority eighth and ninth grade students from rural eastern North Carolina. Twenty students will be selected on a basis of:

  • Classification - currently enrolled in 8th or 9th grade

  • Grade Point Average - B and above

  • Recommendation of counselor or teacher

  • School Transcript

  • Completion of application and essay

  • The cost of the program is covered by Model State Support AHEC grant funds so there is no fee for the students.
