We write to let the medical community know that Dr. Lorrie Basnight will be returning to the Brody School of Medicine as a Clinician Educator. As we all recognize, Dr. Basnight has provided many years of superb leadership for the Vidant GME programs as the Designated Institutional Official (DIO). The GME programs have stabilized, flourished and grown under her stewardship.

Beginning this summer, we will search for the new DIO/Associate Dean for GME.

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Herb Garrison, Vidant Medical Center's Vice President of Medical Affairs for Quality and Patient Safety, will assume the role of Interim DIO/Associate Dean for GME beginning on July 1, 2013. Dr. Garrison is a Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine, where he has held previous leadership roles, including Interim Department Chair. Dr. Garrison is keenly interested in bridging the interface between his work in quality and patient safety and the educational process.
