BS Physical Education

Director:  Dr. Kathy Davis

The purpose of this degree is to prepare individuals for a career in physical education instruction. Program graduates are ready to instruct grades K-12. Teaching certification in North Carolina is incumbent on passing the National Teachers Examination. Graduates are employed in elementary, middle, and secondary schools. Many graduates also provide leadership to intramural and athletic programs.

To declare a major in the Teacher Preparation Degree the student must successfully complete the following requirements:

  1. 2.5 cumulative GPA
  2. Be within 10 hours of completing General Education Requirements
  3. Pass the motor and physical fitness test
  4. Pass the Praxis I test series
  5. Pass the Computer Competency Test (became effective Fall 1999)

In addition to the above requirements, admission to Upper Division status requires the successful completion of the following:

  1. Upper division essay
  2. Upper division interview
