CMN coordinator, Chad Smith, and APNEP staff, Lori Brinn,
attended B.L.A.ST. at Baskerville Elementary School in Rocky Mount, NC.
The B.L.A.S.T. Program (Building a Lasting Awareness of Science and
Technology) is designed to provide the low performing
student population with the opportunity to excel in science.
Furthermore, the objective of the program is to influence the
enrollment and achievement in science of African Americans in eastern
North Carolina.
We had between 10-15 classes from kindergarten through 5th grade visit
the APNEP table to learn about watersheds, the fish life cycle, and
migration.
Following the introduction, students applied what they learned to fun
field games. The students and their teachers had a great time!

encounter when migrating upstream.
