Since 1999, the Cypress Landing Environmental Group has been monitoring
water quality conditions
at the community's marina, which is located on Chocowinity Bay, a
Pamlico River tributary. In addition
to testing the water, they maintain the community's nature trails,
monitor insect pests and diseases, collect
aluminum cans for recycling (which benefits the Washington Center for
the Blind), and organizes the bi-monthly
cleanup of Old Blount's Creek Road under the "Adopt-a-Highway"
Program. The group also communicates
with environmental agencies like the Pamlico-Tar River Foundation and
reports significant developments to
homeowners in their community. This group has been extremely
active over the years and the Citizens' Monitoring
Network is excited to have such motivated volunteers. This group
was also featured in our summer 2004 newsletter,
which can be accessed by clicking here.
