Poster Printing

ITCS offers large format printing on main campus for faculty, staff and student conference presentation posters. West campus users can contact Laupus Library in the Health Sciences Building.

Our poster printing service is for faculty academic presentation posters only. Acceptable file formats are PDF (preferred), PowerPoint and PhotoShop. Please do not request multiple copies unless there is an error or multiple authors. We do not format, edit, trim, laminate or mount posters.

PowerPoint posters should be submitted as a PDF file set to the highest resolution. Be aware that if images are low-resolution or fonts are not embedded, there may be unexpected results.

Paper rolls are 42 inches wide. Either the width or length of a poster may exceed 42 inches, but not both sides. Maximum size is 42x84 inches. Minimum size is 11x17. To print documents 11x17 or smaller, contact ECU Rapid Copy.

      Tips for a Successful Poster

      • Use a white background whenever possible. Many backgrounds (gradient, textures, etc.) do not translate well onto paper and may do nothing to enhance your creation.
      • Set the slide size first. Go to Design >> Page Setup to set the dimensions of your slide. Then when you save as a PDF, the dimensions will be correct for printing.
      • Use only one page for the entire poster (templates available, see below).
      • Make sure that fonts, images, charts, tables, etc., are embedded into the slide rather than linked to avoid low resolution.
      • Note that the colors on your monitor may not reproduce exactly the same on the printed poster.
      • Image resolution should be set high enough so there is no pixilation when printed.
      • Pictures imported from websites are usually low-resolution images for on-screen presentations and Web page use only. Images for use on a poster should be 150 ppi at 100% scale.
      • Be sure to embed within your slide all non-standard fonts you are legally entitled to use. This is especially important when using symbols. Fonts are computer specific. If the poster printer does not have the font you used, it will try to match as closely as possible, but this may not work. If you are using Adobe Illustrator, when your poster is completed, convert your fonts to "Outline."
      • Submit your file as PDF whenever possible. From PowerPoint, choose Save As to make a copy in PDF format. Submit the PDF version of your file but you still have the PPT file for updates.
