Software and Hardware Conferencing Solutions

ECU users have a choice of either software- or hardware-based videoconferencing solutions at ECU.

Hardware solutions

Conference rooms and classrooms with dedicated high-definition cameras, multiple audio inputs and other equipment are good solutions for three or more participant sites and allow for more social presence in a group setting.

Hardware solutions are a great way to conduct distance learning, CME programs, lectures, guest speakers, search committee interviews or group meetings with peers or research groups.

To find the appropriate room for your group meeting or class, first search the classroom database which lists equipment and participant accommodations. Next, email Robert Spencer, spencerr@ecu.edu, to schedule your videoconference. On the day of your meeting, techs set up the room and provide support, as needed.

Software solutions

Two or more individuals connect to each other using their own computer, telephone or mobile device. Skype for Business/Lync, WebEx and Jabber offer video, audio and desktop sharing for presenters as well as participants. This type of mobility means that meetings can be held from home, office, classroom or anywhere there is an Internet connection.

Software web conferencing is ideal for one-on-one interviews, peer discussions, distance learning, CME programs, class lectures or guest instructors. ECU offers:
