 Apple Store apps safest downloads

Beware New iOS/Mac Vulnerability (posted November 17, 2014). Two iOS vulnerabilities have been discovered that affect iOS 7 or higher on iPads, iPhones and Mac computers. These attacks are coming from apps downloaded through unsecured websites. Recommendation: Download all apps from the official Apple App Store only. Bash Vulnerability Requires a Patch

Apple Releases OS X patches (fall 2014) A serious software vulnerability nicknamed, “Shellshock,” has prompted Apple to release OS X patches that are available through their OS X support pages. This vulnerability is a flaw in the GNU Bourne Again Shell (Bash), a component of the OSX operating system. OSX versions affected are OSX Lion, Lion Server, Mountain Lion and Mavericks. Users of these operating systems should download patches at the following web sites. For more information and download links, visit the Bash Web page.

OS X Mavericks now supported by ECU

ITCS now offers support for OS X Mavericks (updated January 28, 2014). If you decide to upgrade, make sure all programs are compatible with Mavericks, then contact ITCS to install the OS at no charge. Mavericks is not compatible with Banner, Enterprise Vault or SPSS 20 and 21. Users should upgrade following these instructions: https://www-304.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21507587.

Upgrade Your ECU Mac System - Faculty/Staff

 

  1. Verify the system is ECU-owned.
  2. Verify that system applications are up to date and compatible with the new operating system. Visit the manufacturer's website.
  3. Log in to the IT Help Desk service request system and complete the Mac OS Request Form. See the screen shot to the right.
  4. Back up all system data.
  5. Gather together all software disks and licenses. You will need to reinstall these after the upgrade.
  6. A technician will contact you to set up an appointment.
