OS X Mavericks now supported by ECU

ITCS now offers support for OS X Mavericks (updated January 28, 2014). If you decide to upgrade, make sure all programs are compatible with Mavericks, then contact ITCS to install the OS at no charge. Mavericks is not compatible with Banner, Enterprise Vault or SPSS 20 and 21. Users should upgrade following these instructions:



Faculty/Staff Piratedrive no longer mounted in the dock (posted October 31, 2013). Effective Monday, November 4, faculty and staff will see their personal Piratedrive folder as a desktop icon labeled, HOME. If Home is not visible on your desktop, visit the Mac Piratedrive page to check your Finder preferences.


Check your flash drive for replacement

Use an ECU-owned MacBook Air? The flash drive may need replacement (posted October 25, 2013). Apple has determined that 64GB and 128GB flash storage drives in the MacBook Air could fail and may be eligible for a free replacement. Products affected include the MacBook Air 11-inch, Mid 2012 and 13-inch, Mid 2012. Visit the Apple store website (link located in the dock or applications folder), click updates and choose MacBook Air Flash Storage Firmware Update 1.1. If the firmware updates, the system is fine. On failure, call the ECU IT Help Desk


Upgrade Your ECU Mac System

  1. Verify the system is ECU-owned.
  2. Verify that applications are up to date and compatible with the new operating system. Visit the manufacturer's website or call them.
  3. Enter a Mac OS Request Form in the online IT service request system.(details here). Or, call the IT Help Desk at 252.328.9866 for assistance.
  4. Back up all data. It's your responsibility.
  5. Be prepared to reinstall any applications. Gather install disks and licenses.
  6. Wait for the technician to contact you.
