East Carolina University

Welcome!

The Information Technology Academy for Students (ITAS) is a three-week residential hands-on learning experience that centers on the use of math and science.  During the three week session, students attend classes 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Monday-Friday and participate in various activities designated to enhance information technology, mathematics, and science and leadership development.  Curriculum topics for and students included Biomechanics, Solid Modeling, Excel, Robotics, and Leadership.  In the evenings, students have the opportunity to participant in various activities from bowling and movie night to water balloon fights.

The academy is located on East Carolina University’s (ECU) campus and draws upon the many resources of ECU, such as the state-of-the-art educational facilities and a multidisciplinary group of ECU faculty members and counselors.

 What to Expect

The link below provides an example schedule of a typical week at the Information Technology Academy for Students.

Evening Activities

Each evening campers will have the chance to participate in fun evening activities that forge bonds of friendship and togetherness. These will be some of the most memorable moments of your daughter’s camp experience! Sample activities include:

  • Movie Night

  • Game Night

  • Talent Show

  • Bowling

  • Swimming

  • Basketball

  • And so much more!

Special Activities and Field Trips

Campers will also go on special field trips and outings, which will change the usual routine.

  • Challenge Course
One element of the ECU Team Training Center is the Challenge Course. It is located adjacent to the Blount Recreational Sports Complex in six-wooded acres in a quiet area of campus. The course includes 17 low elements that provide different challenges to foster team building.

  • Da Vinci Heart Surgery
da Vinci is a $1.5 million dollar surgical system used to aid physicians during heart surgery.  Campers will have the opportunity to visit Pitt Memorial Hospital to view a live heart surgery via robotic technology in a separate room.

Campus Living

Living Arrangements

Campers will live in one of ECU’s dorms.  More specific information will post in late spring.

Dining Facilities

Campers will eat all their meals in ECU dining facilities.  More specific information will post in late spring.

Transportation

ITAS campers will need to make their own arrangements to arrive and depart from the academy. Each county should provide buses to and from camp each week.  Once at ECU, however, they will have access to ECU Transit buses when going far distances on campus or on field trips. At other times, they will walk to class and activities.

What to Bring

The List of Things to Bring provides a comprehensive inventory of all the items your camper should bring and not bring to the ITAS.

If you have questions about specific items on the list, please contact Mrs. Virginia Carraway-Stage, Project Program Coordinator at 252-737-1188 or at vgc0512@ecu.edu.
