Laupus is one of several drop off locations for the Holiday Pet Drive, which will run through December 20th.

Daniel Goldberg, JD, PhD, Assistant Professor, Bioethics & Interdisciplinary Studies, is presenting on "Truth, Objectivity, and Doubt in Late 19th Century U.S. Neurological Discourse Regarding Phantom Limb Pain" on Monday, November 18, at 4:30 in Joyner Library room 2409. Acland's Anatomy unavailable off-campus (10/31-11/4)

Unfortunately, Acland’s Video Atlas of Human Anatomy is currently inaccessible by our patrons who would be accessing this resource while they are off campus. This is due to a problem with Acland’s service provider. We are hoping for this issue to be resolved soon, but it looks like it might not be repaired for our off-campus patrons until Monday November 4th.

We apologize for the inconvenience but in the meantime, access to Acland's is available from on-campus.

Harrison's Practice mobile app discontinued

Effective July 1st, Laupus will no longer carry the Harrison's Practice product from McGraw-Hill. This mobile app for finding Harrison's Principle's of Internal Medicine content at the point-of-care is being discontinued as of December 2012 by the vendor. By making the cut now, Laupus has been able to expand our access to AccessMedicine, which also provides Harrison's content, from a 5-concurrent user model to unlimited concurrent users. We feel that this change is in the best benefit of our patrons and apologize for any inconvenience to our Harrison's Practice users.

Laupus Health Sciences Library will be renovating its 3rd floor in order to make addition study space and more small study rooms.

Please be aware that construction during this time will be noisy especially in study spaces on 3rd floor.

To help mitigate this disruption, we will open additional study rooms on the 4th floor, and disposable ear plugs will be available for FREE at our Service Desk.

The Computer Lab will be closed from May 6 – May 20 for renovations. The lab's service desk will be staffed by a lab assistant between the hours of 7:30am-6:00pm to support our poster printing and equipment loan programs. OpScan exam grading will also still be available. Please contact Nate Saunders (saundersn@ecu.edu) with any questions.

Laupus Partners With "Project Homeless Connect" For Food Drive

On behalf of Project Homeless Connect and in cooperation with the Diversity Committee, Laupus will be hosting a food and donations drive February 7th-17th.

We are collecting specific items: Handi-Snacks cheese and crackers; juice boxes; restaurant gift cards (Bojangles', Hardee's, Taco Bell, etc.); pudding and fruit cups; white crew socks; tuna and chicken snack packs.

Monetary donations are also accepts. 100% of proceeds will be used for the purchase of drive items.

Drop boxes are located in Laupus the 2nd Floor and in the breakroom; on the 1st Floor of the Nursing Lobby; in the Heart Center; and at the main entrance of  Brody. (Look for a purple box.)

Medical School to Host Forum on Swine Flu, May 11

Monday, May 11 from 5:30-6:30pm, there will be a community forum discussing H1N1 flu virus (a.k.a the swine flu).  It will take place in the Brody Medical Sciences Building Auditorium.

It will also be broadcast live on ECU-TV, Suddenlink cable Channel 99, and will also be viewable online.

In addition to hearing from several physicians, participants will be able to ask the panel questions about the virus.

Reminder - "Reserve" Items Require an ID

You will need to be eligible to check out materials and have a photo ID to leave with the Service Desk attendant. Due to some minor renovations near our main 2nd floor doors, there may be construction noise throughout the day on Monday, September 15 in Laupus Library.

Also, on September 16, painters will be staining wood near the service desk, so there may be fumes around the second floor.

Exam Master Now Available from Anywhere

Exam Master is now available from anywhere as long as you have an internet connection and a pirate id and password. 

Exam Master can be accessed from the Electronic Resources page under "E" for Exam Master.  This resource provides exam preparation and review software to medical students, residents, physician assistants, and some other health sciences.

CINAHL Database Changes

Cumulative Index of Nursing and Allied Health Literature has changed parent companies.  EBSCO Information Systems now owns CINAHL and has redesigned the online search page.

As a result, please be aware that CINAHL may not have the functionality you remember. 
Please allow yourself a little extra time to get familiar with EBSCO CINAHL, and as always contact one of our librarians if you need help.

The Collection Management Department of the Laupus Health Sciences Library is now hiring students that have received a Federal Work Study Hiring Authorization Form.

Sy Saeed, M.D., Professor and Chairman, Psychiatric Medicine will present "Voices and Visions: A History of Madness, Institutions, and Recovery" in association with the exhibit "The Lives They Left Behind: Suitcases from a State Hospital Attic".
