Classes

ECU faculty members may request any of the classes below to be taught in-person to their students. Instruction sessions are taught by Information Services librarians who tailor the content to the specific class assignment and the students' research needs.

Drop-in Classes

Getting Started with RefWorks

This class will focus on personal account setup, importing citations, managing/sharing folders, and automatically creating bibliographies and in-text citations.

This class will focus on learning how to use the premier medical, nursing, and allied health databases.

Creating Effective Presentations

This class will focus on the core elements of a successful visual presentation, from using PowerPoint effectively to introducing emerging presentation applications.

Online Classes

These are online versions of the drop-in classes. They are self-paced like our Help Sheets and Tutorials.

Evidence-Based Searching

This class provides a definition of evidence based practice as well as background information for conducting searches for evidence based literature. Included in this class are online videos with sample searches of databases containing evidence based information along with handouts and help sheets with more information.

Getting Started With Publishing

This class will focus on issues with publishing including: cited reference searching (who's citing your work), impact factors and Eigenfactors (which journals are most influential, Ulrich's and more. Included in this class is an introductory video and help sheets for using the resources described.

Keeping Up with the Literature

This class will teach you how to get the latest research and news in your research area to come to you. It focuses on saved searches, RSS, and email auto-alerts.

This class covers the benefits of using library resources, the difference between a book and journal article, peer review, and reading a journal citation.

Need an answer fast? This session will review key clinical information resources, highlighting their strengths and weaknesses for meeting specific information needs when time is limited.

Creating Large-Format Posters With PowerPoint

This class will demonstrate various techniques that can be used to create professional looking, large format posters using Microsoft PowerPoint. Setting up poster slides to facilitate printing through Laupus Library's print service will be covered.
