How can I take Lifelong Learning Program classes?

If you are 50 years old or older, you may take courses either as a member or as a non-member. Paying a reasonable membership fee, members enjoy the benefits of signing up for classes and special events at a discount and at no costs at all, in some cases.

Non-members do not pay any membership fee. They normally are charged higher fees for classes and special events. While there may be a few free classes for non-members, there are usually more for members.

How can I sign up for membership and/or classes?

Membership is open to any adult 50 or older. Registration for membership is open throughout the year and the appropriate fee is due at the time of enrollment.

Fall semester (September 1 - December 31) - $20
Annual fee (September 1 - August 31) - $35
Spring semester (January 1 - August 31) - $20

When can I sign up for classes and/or special events?

Registration for courses and events is open throughout the program year. You may register for all classes of interest to you all at once, or add courses or events after your initial registration. Please enroll by the preregistration date listed for each course in order to ensure a seat and help us avoid course cancellations. Enrollments after preregistration dates will be accepted on a space-available basis.

How can I pay for membership and/or classes?

For fee payment, we accept checks, VISA, MasterCard, or cash.

Do I get any confirmation about my registration and payment?

Yes. If you pay online, you’ll automatically get the confirmation by e-mail.
If you pay by check, we can send you the confirmation by e-mail or by postal mail.

Where are classes held?

Depending on the requirements of the courses, class size, and availability of space, classes are held either on the East Carolina University campus or at facilities in the community such as:

  • Cypress Glen Retirement Community
  • Grace Martin Harwell Senior Center
  • Immanuel Baptist Church
  • Sheppard Memorial Library
  • St. James United Methodist Church
  • Pitt County Community Schools and Recreation Center
  • Pitt County Council on Aging

How will I know when a course is cancelled?

The Office of Continuing Studies will contact you by e-mail and/or by phone as soon as course cancellation is made.

Class cancellations due to weather/climatic conditions: All LLP classes, scheduled on or off campus, will be cancelled when the local public schools close to students,as announced by the media, due tobad weather or catastrophic events.
