<title>Changes to ECUs Buccaneer Wireless Network</title>

<p><strong></strong><strong>When</strong>:2013-06-06 12:26:18</p><p><![CDATA[<p><strong>Beginning June 19, 2013, when you attempt to connect to the <em>Buccaneer</em> wireless network, <em>if your computer does not have the security service software installed</em>, you will be required to install it.</strong></p><p>ITCS will be installing the security service software on all university-owned faculty and staff computers beginning Monday, June 9th via remote installation.</p><ul><li>Should your <strong>Windows</strong> computer not be included during this installation, when you attempt to connect to the <em>Buccaneer</em> network, the software will automatically install itself&mdash;follow the commands on your screen to complete the installation process.</li><li>On <strong>Apple (MAC) </strong>computers, you may need to install the software manually from ECU&rsquo;s Software Download Center at <a href="https://download.ecu.edu">https://download.ecu.edu</a>. Check your Applications folder first for an application called "CCAAgent".</li><li><strong>Linux</strong> computers are exempt from these requirements at this time.</li></ul><p>The security service software will scan your computer to ensure it meets the following requirements for connecting to the <em>Buccaneer</em> wireless network:</p><ol><li>The computer must have antivirus software installed, running, and up-to-date; and</li><li>The computer must have an updated and vendor/ECU-supported Windows or Apple (MAC) operating system:</li></ol><ul><li>Windows computers must have XP or later</li><li>Apple (MAC) computers must have 10.6.8 or later</li></ul><p><br /> Once the scan is complete, you will see one of the following notifications:</p><p>Your computer <strong>successfully</strong> meets the security requirements and you will be granted access to the <em>Buccaneer</em> wireless network. You will not see this notification again unless your computer fails to meet the security requirements.</p><p>OR</p><p>Your computer <strong>failed</strong> to meet the security requirements and you are strongly encouraged to update your antivirus software and/or operating system. If you choose to update, the security service software will guide you through the process and then recheck your computer for compliance. Once successful, you will be granted access to the <em>Buccaneer</em> wireless network.</p><p><strong>NOTE: At this time, if your computer fails to meet the security requirements and you decline to update your computer, you will still be permitted to connect to the Buccaneer wireless network. However, in October, bypassing the update process will no longer be an option&mdash;you will be required to update your computer.</strong></p><p>Connecting to<em> <strong>Buccaneer</strong></em><strong> </strong>will allow you to access the <strong>Internet AND internal university resources</strong> like Banner INB, direct access to personal and departmental Piratedrives, ECU network printers and departmental systems, etc.</p>]]></p>

<p><strong></strong><strong>When</strong>:2013-05-31 15:30:36</p><p><![CDATA[<p><strong>When</strong>: Saturday June 22<sup>nd</sup> / 1:00pm-5:00pm</p><p>Yammer will be unavailable on Saturday, June 22, 2013 from 1:00pm to 5:00pm. During this time Yammer will be applying a major database software patch which may require approximately 4 hours of downtime. All precautions have been taken to ensure downtime will be as minimal as possible.</p>]]></p>

<title>Alumni E-mail upgrade - New link to access Alumni e-mail</title>

<p><strong></strong><strong>When</strong>:2013-06-05 15:44:55</p><p><![CDATA[<p><strong>When: Wednesday, June 5th</strong></p><p><span style="font-size: small;">Beginning June 5, alumni email accounts will transition from the current Windows Liveserviceto Office 365. There is a new link to access Alumni email, it can be found at <a href="http://www.piratealumni.com">www.piratealumni.com<strong><br /></strong></a></span></p><p><span style="font-size: small;">The Outlook interface will look and behave pretty much the same as Windows Live, but Messenger will be replaced with the Lync Online client that allows instant messaging between staff, students and faculty, online video/audio meetings and more. During the upgrade, users can continue to use all features of their account; emails, contacts and calendar events will transfer to the Office 365 account.</span></p><p><span style="font-size: small;"><strong>HERE'S WHAT YOU NEED TO DO:</strong> After the transition, users should bookmark the new login:<a href="http://www.outlook.com/alumni.ecu.edu">http://www.outlook.com/alumni.ecu.edu</a>. SKYDRIVE becomes your personal account and can be accessed at <a href="http://skydrive.live.com/">http://skydrive.live.com</a> using your alumni account credentials. ECU will no longer be able to help with password resets for the Skydrive account. Lync Online will need to be installed on your computer. A link to the download is found on the <em>Home</em> page. <title>ITCS Security Warning:  Telephone Scam Alert</title>

<p><strong></strong><strong>When</strong>:2013-06-11 14:28:10</p><p><![CDATA[<p><strong>When</strong>: Tuesday, June 11th</p><p><strong>WARNING!</strong> There have been reports about users on campus receiving a phone call from an individual claiming to be from the IT department, asking users for information about their computer settings. The phone number of the caller was from another area code, not the local 252 code.</p><p><strong>Reminder:</strong> ITCS reminds the campus to avoid phone/e-mail scams, hoaxes and phishing schemes. Do not provide your password or computer information in response to such attempts.</p><p><strong>NEVER</strong> provide personal or sensitive information in response to any unsolicited phone calls.
