Castle Island with our base of operations.

Matt Lawrence, one of the crew chiefs this season. Matt's thesis project, a wreck near Tarboro, was the focus of the first part of last year's field school.

Castle Island showing the wrecks from the 1998 and 1999 field seasons. This is part of the display used to educate the public.

Sam Belcher, one of the field school students, on board the Perkins.

MJ Harris on the R/V Perkins.

Frank Cantelas, staff archaeologist for the Maritime Studies Program, was on hand to explain the side scan sonar during our overnight trip.

The Privateer was needed to pull the Perkins away from the dock. The flooding after Hurricane Floyd changed the river bottom of the Pamlico. The Perkins now sits on a sand bar and becomes imbedded during low tide.

Another side scan sonar image showing Wreck #10.

The storm damage from 1913.

The cabin of the R/V Perkins.

The Estuarium. This view is from our base of operations in the river.

The pontoon boat anchored near wreck #10. A dive flag is always prominently displayed when the divers are in the water.

Brad Rodgers on board the R/V Perkins.

Mike Huges prepares to deploy the towfish. The sonar did not pick up many anomalies during this trip. This may be due to the long term dredging of the river and sound to accomodate large vessels.

Russ Green, crew chief during this project, on board the R/V Perkins.
