Bermuda 2000 - L'Herminie Wreck

The L'Herminie was a 60 gun French frigate built in 1828.  She was part of a squadron sent to Mexican waters to enforce French claims against Mexico.  Within three months, many crew members contracted yellow fever and she was recalled back to France.  On route to France, the L'Herminie encountered rough seas.  Attempting to find safety in Bermuda, she hit a reef and sank in 1838.  L'Herminie was the subject of maritime student Sarah Waters thesis completed in 1999, entitled "The Historical and Archaeological Investigation of the Loss of a Nineteenth Century French Frigate."

Mike Hughes inspects one of the several cannons at the L'Herminie.

Stephen Hammack looks over the site for ceramics and glass.
