court.
2006
NC Maritime History Council 16th Annual Conference
The conference, concentrating on the maritime history and culture of the area
of the Lower Cape Fear River, centered on the North Carolina Maritime Museum
in Southport. It ran from October 26-28, 2006 and provided an
excellent opportunity for Dr. Stewart and Tricia Dodds to present some of
the collective work that occurred during the ECU 2006 Fall
Field School
in Washington, NC.
2006 MSA Halloween Party
The capes and pitchforks were broken out, the face paint applied with care,
and all through the night several maritimers could be heard! From the Far East to Ozzy Osbourne, costumes covered a diverse
social historical landscape of behavioral interactions that seemed almost
bounded by the tenets of Giddings' Structuration Theory. Click here
Sailing
on the Periauger
Sailing the Periauger was a fun and exciting success! We lubbers
didn't capsize the boat and, by the end, we actually were able to tack and
jibe with the best of 'em! Click here
2006
Regatta
No cardboard this time! Students and faculty relaxed at the end of the
semester as unflushable floaters of the Tar River.

Parties: An annual celebration of
surviving, some barely, the physical rigors and mental exhaustion of ECU
Scientific Diving Zero-Visibility training.
Spring 2006 Spring
2005
"Seabiscuits
and Bitters" night: This dinner and gambling night
re-created some aspects of traditional mariner life. Taking on the roles Admiral to Cabin Boy,
we studied and enjoyed maritime folklore with mariner's food, gambling, and
overall debauchery...and we didn't forget the Grog! Click here
Holiday Dinner
MSA hosted its first annual
holiday dinner at Wimpy's. It was a
wonderful way to kick off the holidays, and the secret santa didn’t
hurt! Click here
Annual
Halloween Party
The 2005 annual Halloween party was,
of course, frightfully entertaining. Thanks to everyone that brought a good
sense of humor and a LOT of imagination.
Prizes were awarded to the best dressed costumes. To see the winners and more
photographs of the event, click

2005
Cardboard Boat Regatta
The first Maritime Studies Grand Fleet launched at the end of the Spring 2005
semester. Craft use lives and
participant dampness levels varied as much as the many construction styles
– at least at first. Next time
– water cannons! Click here
