Susanne Grieve

Susanne Grieve graduated in 2003 with a BA in Anthropology/ Archaeology with a specialization in underwater archaeology from the University of West Florida. During that time she attended the Flinders University underwater archaeology field school in South Australia. She completed an internship with the CSS Hunley Project in Charleston where she primarily worked on organic material recovered from the Civil War submarine from 2003-2004. Following the Hunley, she completed her MA in Conservation from the University College London in 2005. Susanne is currently an Assistant Conservator at The Mariners’ Museum working on small finds and organic material from the Civil War ironclad, the USS Monitor. Her research interests include the conservation of waterlogged archaeological leather, footwear and historic rubber products.
