The BM in Jazz Studies

A student can receive the Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz Studies, with concentration in vocal or instrumental emphasis. In order to be accepted into the upper division for this major, there are certain requirements that must be satisfied prior to gaining entrance into the jazz studies degree program.

In addition to the Instrumental Department's Upper Division Qualifying Exam, a separate jury is required to enter the Jazz Studies Major. This additional jury is taken after completion of four (4) semester hours of jazz applied lessons and the lower level theory courses. Typically, this additional jury is of 20-minute duration and is held during the spring semester of the sophomore year. Upon passing this jury, the student will be accepted into the ECU Jazz Major Degree Program.
