One of the publication's most popular elements, the serialized "Dictionary of North Carolina Writers" is
a selective list of persons associated with writing in the state. The Dictionary entries are compiled and
composed by NCLR Senior Associate Editor Lorraine Hale Robinson with research assistance from the undergraduate
interns, writing assistance from the graduate assistant editors, and editorial assistance from the general editor.
Each entry provides a biographical sketch and the person's dates. Since 1997, the head-notes to the
entries have been expanded to include information on genres and counties / regions with which the
person has been associated.
In the 2002, 10th anniversary issue, we went back through the M's, filling in writers we had missed in
the preceding issues. As of 2005, the Dictionary has been serialized up to the S's. Upon reaching
the end of the alphabet, NCLR plans another retrospective installment.
To ensure being considered for inclusion in the next installment(s) of the Dictionary, writers are
welcome to send a biographical statement and list of publications to:

Given the number of writers associated with North Carolina, the Dictionary usually
includes only those with at least one book (published by a press that screens/reviews submissions).
