ECU conducting campus climate survey

GREENVILLE, NC   (Mar. 21, 2007)   —   A campus climate survey is being conducted at East Carolina University to provide institutional information, analysis and recommendations on campus “climate.”

For the survey, climate refers to current attitudes, behaviors and standards of employees and students concerning access, inclusion and level of respect for individuals or groups on campus.

All students and employees of ECU are encouraged to take the online survey by April 4. All submissions will be anonymous. The survey can be access at http://www.ecu.edu/cs-admin/diversity/

The Chancellor’s Diversity Council recommended that a climate survey be undertaken for the ECU community. With the support of Chancellor Steve Ballard, the committee commissioned the consulting firm, Rankin and Associates, to administer the survey and analyze the data.

The ECU climate survey results will be used by the university to develop recommendations for managing diversity on our campus, to aid all areas of the campus in making ECU welcoming for all, and to provide important information about the campus to improve the environment for working and learning at the university.

The results of the survey will be reported during the fall 2007 semester.

Participants can register to win a series of "thank you" prizes, including Apple iPods. The grand prize for students is the use of an A1 (faculty and staff) parking sticker for one month.

Confidential assistance is available for those taking the survey; a hotline will be staffed through April 4 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The hotline numbers are 328-5738, 328- 5739 and 328-5740.

A copy of the letter to the campus community from Chancellor Ballard can be found here.
