New dean named for College of Human Ecology
GREENVILLE, N.C. (Jan. 13, 2009) — Judy Siguaw has joined East Carolina University as dean of the College of Human Ecology.
The marketing and hospitality expert comes to ECU from the Cornell-Nanyang Institute of Hospitality Management in the Nanyang Business School in Singapore, where, since 2005, she had served as a professor and dean.
Provost Marilyn Sheerer said Siguaw’s international experience and entrepreneurial skills will benefit the university. “She is exactly the right person at the right time for this position,” Sheerer said. “I know she will look closely at the college and maximize its strengths, and I am looking forward to her strong leadership as she takes over as dean.”
Siguaw said she is excited to head the college. “The College of Human Ecology is well positioned to garner much national recognition and to develop a stronger international reputation. I am excited about being part of CHE’s efforts in that regard, as well as the role CHE will play in facilitating ECU’s overall objectives for growth and heightened prominence,” she said.
Siguaw received a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Lamar University, and earned her DBA in marketing at Louisiana Tech University.
From 1991 to 1996, she taught in the College of Business at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. After a year at Kennesaw State University, she moved to Cornell University in 1997. There, she served as a professor and held administrative roles, including interim director of graduate studies and area academic director for Marketing, Information Systems, Strategy and Tourism.
Her professional memberships include the American Marketing Association; Academy of Marketing Association; Council on Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Education; and Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International.
In addition to her role as dean, Siguaw will be a professor in ECU’s Department of Hospitality Management.
