ECU faculty honored for teaching, advising

(Aug. 28, 1997)   —   Three East Carolina University faculty members were honored with alumni teaching awards at the annual Faculty Convocation on campus. Another four were recognized for superior advising.

Receiving $1,000 awards as Alumni Distinguished Professors for Teaching were Reid Claxton, assistant professor of Marketing; Chia-yu Li, professor and chair of chemistry; and John D. Rose, associated professor of medicine. The alumni awards are the oldest campus-wide teaching awards at the university.

Winners of the Outstanding Advisor Awards, which carry $500 stipends, were Karen Handcock, professor of health and human performance; Holly F. Mathews, associate professor of anthropology; Belinda T. Lee, assistant professor of nursing; and W. Scott Thomson, associate professor of Education.
