Charles M. Hawkins, a veteran higher education finance officer, has been named interim vice chancellor for administration and finance at East Carolina University.
Hawkins has been at ECU since 1999 and has been serving as senior associate vice chancellor for financial services. He succeeds Richard Brown, who retired.
Chancellor Steve Ballard said, "I am delighted that Chuck Hawkins has agreed to undertake this crucial role for the university. His detailed knowledge and wide experience have equipped him to provide excellent leadership in these demanding areas."
Hawkins will oversee university budgets, human resources, business services, information technology, accounting, and campus operations, including facilities, parking and transportation and university police.
He came to ECU from the University of Michigan and holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Michigan and master of science in accounting from Eastern Michigan University.
A search committee has been formed to identify candidates to fill the vice chancellorship on a permanent basis.
