Patrons of Todd Dining Hall at East Carolina University were entertained by ECU alumnus Chris Grymes’ “pop-up performance” on Jan. 21.

Grymes played a piece called “New York Counterpoint” by Steve Reich, with 10 recorded parts and the final part delivered live.

The mini-concert helped to promote Grymes, who plays clarinet, and pianist Xak Bjerken’s performance at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23 in A.J. Fletcher Recital Hall. The performance, part of the North Carolina NewMusic Initiative, is free and open to the public.

The NewMusic Initiative will host more free performances this spring. To learn more, visit
