Eligibility and Application Process
Priority for participation is given to tenure-track faculty with any length of service and fixed-term faculty who have been at ECU for at least five years. The Academy will serve both new and junior faculty and experienced faculty who want to develop expertise in this type of scholarship. Identification of faculty could occur in two ways: 1) Faculty may indicate their interest to their Dean or Director or Deans or Directors may approach faculty they believe may benefit from the Academy.
Up to three faculty from each College, School, Center or Institute may apply. Criteria for participation will include:
- An active research agenda that contributes to the discipline and has an impact on the community. A clear desire to implement this type of research agenda.
- A demonstrated desire for new learning about engaged scholarship.
- The capacity to effectively communicate and disseminate the results of their research and engaged scholarship to external audiences.
- A commitment to actively participate in the program, including planning and implementing an engaged scholarship project in collaboration with a community partner.
The faculty scholar will complete the application form and forward it to his/her Dean or Director to review. If the Dean or Director is in support of the application, s/he will complete a letter of recommendation and attach it to the application. The application with the Dean or Director's letter will be returned to the faculty member.
The faculty member will submit the completed application packet to the Director of the Outreach Scholars Academy by September 4, 2009.
Applications will be reviewed by the EOSA Selection Committee and successful applicants notified by September 25, 2009.
