ECU Required DE Faculty Training

Since 2011-2012, all faculty who teach in Distance Education are required to complete 6 DE Modules approved by the University for eligibility to teach in DE. If you teach or plan to teach in Distance Education and have not completed the modules, please complete them. If the DE Modules training isn’t listed in your courses when you sign into Cornerstone, contact your department and/or the Office for Faculty Excellence (328-1426 or email Dorothy Muller).

Once you have completed the required modules, to remain eligible to teach in distance education, you must complete at least one Distance Education Faculty Development activity annually under Faculty Development Distance Education, post it in Sedona, and include it in your annual report. Some colleges or departments may require the completion of more than one activity annually.

East Carolina provides opportunities for faculty development through the Office for Faculty Excellence, ITCS, and colleges. The OFE attempts to collect the opportunities to share with faculty. Thanks to the support of faculty, staff, and others, the Office for Faculty Excellence provides many programs each year, including programs appropriate for Faculty Development in Distance Education. With permission, many of the programs are recorded for viewing by faculty at a distance and others unable to attend the sessions face to face. Faculty can view appropriate sessions and complete an online reflection to receive Faculty Development credit.

OFE also works with faculty to develop other teaching modules. Completion of a module designated as a DE module and submission of a reflection form also qualifies as a Distance Education Faculty Development activity.
