Greenville
Community Shelter Clinic is a free medical clinic run by medical
students at Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University.
Our patients are from primarily from the Greenville Community Shelter;
we also serve patients from the Little Willie Center, New Directions,
Flynn Christian Home, Operation Sunshine, and Maria House. We offer
basic medical service and referrals to people who cannot obtain
these services elsewhere.
We first opened in December 1988 and are currently located on the
grounds of the former Agnes Fullilove School. We have three exam
rooms, a small conference room, a laboratory, and a pharmacy closet.
We are funded through numerous sources, most significantly the United
Way of Pitt County. Grants, and donations from local businesses
and individuals also help fund our efforts. Medical students, premedical
students, and community physicians all donate their time to run
the clinic. ECU Physicians’ Family Practice center, Pitt County
Health Department, Pitt County Memorial Hospital, and local private
physicians all provide referral services for our patients. The staff
of Greenville Community Shelter helps coordinate patient prescriptions
and referral issues and transportation.
We are open for General Clinic on Mondays from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm,
and for Women & Childrens Clinic on the first and third Thursday
of each month from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm. |
