The national broadcast society began in 1941, at Stephens College, Columbia, Missouri. Originally it was a small Radio Honorary Society, Beta Epsilon Phi. In May 1943, NBS became an official inter-collegiate organization with four charter chapters: Stephens College, the University of Syracuse, Michigan State University and Ohio State University.
Today, over 30,000 individuals have been initiated into the society. There are over seventy-five chapters on campuses across the nation.
Each year, NBS holds its national convention in one of the major media centers. Recent past sites have included New York, Los Angeles and Atlanta. Convention activities include seminars, speakers, tours, critiques; and, speakers have included Bob Costas of NBC and Jack Valenti, past president of the Motion Picture Association of America.
The East Carolina chapter started in 2002. It was recognized by the national organization as “Rookie Chapter of the Year” in 2003. Our membership continues to grow, and opportunities are growing along with them.
I invite you to join us!
