2013-2014Two Statesville Residents are Co-Winners of Outstanding First-Year Student Award at East Carolina University

Two Statesville residents, Kristalyn Gill, a graduate of Statesville Christian School, and Melinda “Tori” Plyler, a graduate of South Iredell high school, are co-winners of the Outstanding First-Year Student Award at East Carolina University. Kristalyn and Tori received checks for $500.00 and plaques from the chapter. Kristalyn Gill is an East Carolina scholar and member of the Honors College and is pursuing a double major in dance performance and communication studies. She served as Miss Central North Carolina for 2013 and has choreographed numerous dance performances. She has been an active volunteer with the Salvation Army and with childhood fitness and adult literacy programs Tori Plyler is also an East Carolina scholar and member of the Honors College. She is an engineering major with a focus on biomedical engineering. She is an active member of Gamma Gamma Sigma sorority, tutors at the Boys and Girls Club of Greenville, and has organized several fund-raising events for charity. She is a member of the Engineering Ambassadors and several professional engineering organizations. She currently works in the lab of Dr. George analyzing phase-contrast MR scans.
