  • Avoid foods that have large amounts of sugar and fat. Substituting junk foods with healthy snack foods will protect your teeth from cavities and will help your maintain an ideal body weight. Now is the time to help your child establish healthy habits. Some healthy snacks include:

      - popcorn
      - cheese and crackers
      - veggie sticks
      - a piece of fruit

  • Brushing and flossing are not the only ways to keep your teeth healthy - you also need to be careful about what you eat and drink! Bacteria that live in our mouths can use the sugar we eat to make cavities in our teeth. Eat lots of fruits and vegetables and drink water instead of soda.

  • The Food Pyramid (from the United States Department of Agriculture) is an easy way to understand how to eat healthy. Each color in the pyramid represents a different food group, and the wider the strip is, the more of that group you should eat. Try to eat every color every day!
