Help your child to brush his teeth every morning and every evening. Included in the materials distributed to your child today is a toothbrush and toothpaste sample for your child to use at home. Ask your child about the plaque disclosing tablet exercise (his teeth turned purple in the areas that he should concentrate brushing in the future).

What is a Cavity?

A cavity is a hole in a tooth that has started to break down. The outside of every tooth has a protective coating, called enamel. Plaque is a sticky substance made of germs and food that forms in our mouths. These bacteria also make acids, so when the plaque sticks to the enamel of our teeth, the acids eat away at the enamel layer.

How do I keep my teeth healthy and strong?

    Be sure to:
  • Brush your teeth at least two times a day — when you wake up in the morning and before you go to bed.
  • Use toothpaste that has fluoride in it, and be sure to brush all surfaces of your teeth, on the inside and outside.
  • Floss everyday to get rid of the plaque between your teeth, and limit the amount of sugar you eat.
  • Visit your dentist twice a year for checkups!
