Eat and drink the proper foods to obtain enough calcium every day. Your kindergartener should be consuming two and a half glasses of low-fat or fat free milk per day. Not only will milk help your child's smile, but it will also help his bones to grow very strong and will prevent osteoporosis later in his life. Studies show that most teenagers do not consume enough milk and calcium at a time when it is crucial for their bodies, and now is the time to help your child develop this healthy habit.
What if I don't like milk?
Although milk has more calcium than any other food, there are many different foods that have calcium. Other sources of calcium include:
- yogurt
- cheese
- salmon
- almonds
- dark green leafy vegetables, such as turnip greens
- okra
- white beans, navy beans, or pinto beans
- broccoli
- orange juice that is fortified with calcium
