Welcome

The Office of Technology Transfer (OTT) facilitates the development of products of innovation from the laboratory and the classroom for the benefit of society as a whole. OTT serves as an educational resource on intellectual property and licensing matters and manages the University’s portfolio of patents and licenses.

Our Mission

The mission of the Office of Technology Transfer is to promote innovation, enhance research, and facilitate economic development through protecting and commercializing intellectual property in an efficient manner that benefits the University, the region, and the society as a whole.

History of OTT

Planning to establish a technology transfer and commercialization function at East Carolina University began in 1995, and concluded with the establishment of the Office of Technology Transfer in 1997. To facilitate development and commercialization of its innovations OTT utilizes the skills and services of internal and external resources including competent patent counsel, technology advisors and development partners.  Today ECU’s OTT is recognized regionally and nationally for its accomplishments in technology transfer and commercialization.
